Middle School and High School Principal - Shawn Rude

The 2017-2018 school year marks my 18th year as an Educator, and my 7th year in Elcho. Everyday I come to work excited to be a part our school and community. I appreciate our dedicated staff members, supportive community, and great students! This year our focus will be on Academic Career Planning for students. Through the development of a strong academic and career plans, we believe, students can recognize the relevancy of their work in school and in life. We want them to see that the hard work and resiliency they demonstrate in school will help them in their future. We will help students develop a plan for their future, because we know that students with some form of a plan are more likely to achieve personal and career success, however they define it. Our focus on academic and career planning will strengthen communications and improve partnerships with parents, and the community. By focusing our efforts in this manner our students will better know themselves, engage in meaningful activities that explore career and educational options, and create plans that include goals for life after high school. To do this our school will work to create an environment where students feel confident to go out and achieve their personal goals. We are also working to improve reading and literacy across all of our grade levels. As we do this we will be seeking input from our stakeholders to better define what it means to be career, college and life ready, so that when students walk across the stage at graduation we know they have the tools necessary to meet their individual goals. This will be an exciting year! Everyday we will see our new building taking shape and while that is happening we will be building the structure needed to continuously improve how we meet the needs of our students!

Being here for 7 years now I have had the chance to meet a large cross section of our community. For those I have not yet had the pleasure of meeting you should know I grew up in  Wisconsin Rapids and attended the University of Wisconsin Stevens Point. As an undergraduate I majored in Community Development and Physical Geography as well as Broadfield Social Science.  I began my teaching career in New Holstein, Wisconsin where for eleven years I taught High School Social Studies while coaching/advising a variety of athletics and extracurricular activities including football, track, forensics and academic decathlon. While teaching I served in a number of District leadership positions, which led me to continue my education at Marian University. Upon receiving my  Masters Degree in Educational Leadership I came here to Elcho.

When I am not at school I enjoy traveling, cooking, photography and spending time outdoors with my family. I look forward to each season and getting out more to go hiking, hunting or snowmobiling.

I am honored to be a Principal in the Elcho School District, and look forward to the opportunities, challenges and celebrations each school year brings.   I invite you to contact me with any questions or concerns at 715-275-3225 or via email at: srude@elchoschool.org
