Welcome to Social Studies
Whether we think about it or not, we are part of the human story. My interest in the social studies is rooted in the seeing the connections between people from around the world and the history that explains so much of ourselves. No one will ever master the skills it takes to research, analyze, and communicate these connections- we should never lack a lesson to be learned or practiced.

I grew up among the hills, valleys, and dairy farms of southwest Wisconsin. UW-La Crosse was my college home and the place where I realized teaching was going to be my profession. Student teaching took me to Westby Middle School and Sparta High School. I spent two years as a long-term substitute teaching English, creative writing, Spanish, and business education. Elcho gave me my first full-time social studies position. I also coach football, advise the Student Council, and run open weightlifting sessions for any students who would like to join. It is great to be involved in this close-knit community and teaching subjects that I am passionate about.
